Arms Race
The arms race was a competition between nations for superiority of weapons. The code name for the worlds first atomic bomb was the Manhattan creation. The two Japanese cities that the U.S dropped the atomic bomb on was Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Soviet Union tested their first atomic bomb on the 29th of August 1949. The major goal of the arms race was to have more weapons and bigger armies. In 1952 the United States developed the first hydrogen bomb it worked by a process of nuclear fusion to create a huge amount of heat and radiation. ICBM stands for Inter continental ballistic missiles. They were used for a land based atomic attack. The first atlas missile was the SM-65 first successful missile, they were converted to launch vehicles after being removed as missiles. The Minutemen missile could hold three nuclear warheads which had a distance of 300 to 500 kilotons and the power to end civilization. The United States today has 4,804 nuclear warheads. In Russia today they have 1,512 nuclear warheads.
